City of Melbourne Urban Forest Crowdmap
The City of Melbourne is piloting a crowd-sourcing platform for community consultation on the urban forest.
This Crowdmap is intended to collect information provided by members of the public about what they like in the urban forest and what they would like to see more of or what they would like to change. This information will be used in the development of urban forest precinct plans across the City. These plans will guide street tree planning and greening by precinct over the next 10 years. In 2013, we will develop plans for Carlton, South Yarra, the CBD and East Melbourne.
This platform is provided by Ushahidi and was initially developed as a tool for citizens to map and report incidents of ethnic violence in Kenya. Ushahidi recognized a need for such a platform to be used around the world. The platform has largely been used to sort and display data during humanitarian and environmental crises. The open, easy to use platform lends itself well to having many people reporting on, and commenting on, events or features in a particular location.
To submit information, use the web Submit on the Report page.
The free iPhone and Android apps for Ushahidi are available. Search for 'Ushahidi' where you download apps. You can view reports or submit reports using the apps.
